Free Checking Account
Friday, October 30th, 2009Usually with a free checking account, they would require you to have a savings account with the bank also. Do keep in mind that they might have some sneaky little requirement there. Some banks will set up an automatic transfer from your checking account to your savings account. This can be considered a very unethical way of doing business, because a lot of people can forget that their bank automatically transfers $25 from their checking to the savings account. Then what happens when you spend $500 and your checking account is only at 495 because the automatic transfer just put $25 from your checking to your savings. Guess what the bank gets. They will get to charge you a NSF fee or an overdraft fee. So, not all free checking accounts have the best intentions. Even the big banks do this like Bank of America. If you can get a free checking account and do not have to get a savings account that automatically transfers a certain amount each month, then sign up for it. The goal here is to have a worry free checking account where you know where your money is going to be each day. Some banks will also offer you free checks with your checking account, so if you use checks you might want to see how much it will cost you to get new ones.
Second chance banking is where banks will give you another chance at getting a checking account again. Although the majority of banks out there will deny you a new checking account, there are still a number of banks that will give you another chance at banking. The main thing you want to look for first is a free checking account. Each person has a different situation, so there are the cases where not everyone will get a free checking account. There are a lot of banks that can give you a second chance checking account for free, and that is definitely the first thing to try to get. If you try a number of banks and cannot get a free checking account, then that might be the time when you should start looking into getting a checking account where there is a small monthly fee involved. An 8 dollar a month fee to keep your checking account is well worth the conveniences of using checks to pay your bills. You will also be saving money since you can either have your checks direct deposited to your account or cash them for free at your bank. Cashing your checks at check cashing stores will eat away at your pay check.
